About the Author

Barbara A. Nagel Lechman

Barbara Nagle Lechman is an an Assoiciate Professor at Montclair State Univeristy in the Department of Political Science and Law. She earned her BA from Montclair State Univeristy and her JD from Seton Hall University.  She served as a Judicial Assistant to the Honorable James H. Coleman and the Honorable Bryant W. Griffin, Judges of the Superior Court of New Jersey, and practiced real estate  law and civil litigation thereafter.  She has been teaching at Montclair State University since 1994, serving as coordinator of both undergraduate and graduate dispute resolution courses. 

Professor Nagle Lechman has over ten years' experience at the New Jersey State Bar Foundation training teachers in conflict resolution, peer mediation and character education, and participated in the development of the book and other materials provided.  She has published several articles in the Journal of Paralegal Education and Practice, the Paralegal Educator, the NJ Dispute Resolution Section Newsletter, and the New Jersey Law Journal

Professor Nagle Lechman served on the New Jersey Supreme Court Task Force on Alternate Dispute Resolution.  She has provided both arbitration and mediation services with the New Jersey courts and the American Arbitration Association.  She continues to present at numerous conferences, both nationally and internationally.  She served as a trainer in the Asia Girl Child Peace Camp in Nepal in 2003 under the auspices of Creative Response to Conflict.  She also trains teachers, students and parents in Conflict Resolution and related topics in schools with Peace Roots, L.L.C.
